The nature of the beast
Oystercatcher Enterprises Ltd was established in 2023 by multi-award-winning poet and educator Dr Mark Tredinnick and Wollongong-based poet Steve Meyrick.
It is dedicated to poetry that is intelligent and intelligible. We aim to encourage people to write such poetry; to help them bring it into the world; and to find ways of bringing the world to it.
Oystercatcher is a not-for-profit enterprise registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. As a company limited by guarantee, we are required to retain any surplus that we make within the company, and use it further the objects that are specified in our charter.
OUR objects
Oystercatcher's objects are formally set out in its charter. They are
- To encourage the writing of high-quality poetry and writing about poetry that reflects the diversity of the Australian community;
- To create new opportunities for the publication, dissemination and discussion of poets’ work through both new and traditional media;
- To develop and extend the audience for poetry in Australia by publishing work of high artistic value that is accessible to a broad range of readers and listeners;
- To promote the reading and discussion of poetry at a diversity of locations and events;
- To undertake activities incidental or ancillary to these purposes.
